The Friends of Canon Gideon Foundation (FOCAGIFO) serves as the Global Working Group’s Secretariat. It is housed in Uganda and headed by Professor Canon Gideon Byamugisha, the first religious leader in Africa to publicly declare his HIV positive status. The organization supports other religious leaders who are living with or personally affected by HIV, focuses on youth empowerment at the forefront of its strategy to combat the virus and has a running institute for the technical training, spiritual empowerment, gainful skilling, environmental awareness raising, and social justice sensitization of OVCs. FOCAGIFO will open a unique, innovative, and transformational university in Semuto, Uganda in 2015.
