The Lutheran Communion in Southern Africa (LUCSA) defines itself as “a communion of 15 member churches operating in 10 countries throughout Southern Africa. We are one of three sub-regional expressions in Africa of the Lutheran World Federation (LWF). Our communion functions together, as a unified body, to address the various challenges facing our sub-region. Our mission is to facilitate our member churches in capacity building and the mobilization of resources to meet their needs.”

LUCSA was founded in 1991 as the successor to the Federation of Lutheran Churches in Southern Africa (FELCSA) that operated since 1966. The organization is firm in its particular Lutheran identity focusing on evangelical, sacramental, diaconal, confessional, and ecumenical services.
